Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a place of extremes – rainforests and deserts, mountains and immense craters, desolation and great beauty. The Kilauea Caldera (Crater) is immense – hiking through it is an otherworldly experience. Hiking through the Thurston Lava Tube is mesmerizing. And the Holei Sea Arch is just beautiful.
There are petroglyphs to explore, lava fields to walk across, lush tropical plants, and brightly-colored birds. We even experienced a volcanic seismic event here – our room shook hard enough to wake us both up in the middle of the night!
